Only three reasons you ask? Well, I have to put a limit somewhere.

Here are the three most convincing reasons:

1. I am primarily an editor and literary critic who also loves stretching the imagination muscles to write (creatively).

2. I have an uncanny fascination with the Gothic, crows, schizophrenia, raving suicidal women, and Opium*.

3. I have some of my own original works published in my own journal. Ok, its not a journal, its a creative writing magazine.

My new worst enemy

No. I am not talking about the irritating and slightly worrisome redish color my bank balance has been turning lately, although it is closely related. I am talking about Polyvore.com,

From Polyvore’s about page: “Polyvore is a fashion community site that lets you mix and match products from any online store to create outfits or any kind of collage. For the love of god, if you have any fears of losing your hard earned cash on a frivolous $290 splurge on Chloe Square Sunglasses (in Dark Tortise), which are gorgeous by the way, or vanishing a month’s pay check on a leather Miu Miu sling purse, then for the love of god do not visit Polyvore. The good part? You can simulate window shopping by putting together your own outfits. And if that isn’t satisfying enough, you can limit yourself by price when shopping.

In case you were looking for something cool to buy me, this is a list of my favorite consumerist garbage from the last decade. Don’t worry, I’m not a trend freak so this will still be valid despite the date.

1. First off we have the “Alfred Hitchcock The Birds Barbie Doll” This easily outranks the popular Lucy and Ethel doll, as well as the horribly disfigured 80′s Cher Bob Mackie doll. (This one is via @brief_candle. Props to her on the find) Honestly, no self respecting doll collection can be complete without this.

2. Closely on Barbie’s heels, (yes, I went there) we find the Yahoo Insta-Yodel. Not to be confused with lesser satisfying Staples “Easy” button. Who knew that instant gratification is “only a click away“?! Well, apparently Yahoo did. I want instant gratification please. Ok? Ok.

3. Shoes, shoes shoes. Yes, I am a women, but no man can deny the genius of the Adidas Luke Hightops. And for all you Star Wars geeks, there is plenty more where this came from. A very close runner up (yes, I went there again) in this collection were the “Only Imperial Stormtroopers Are So Precise” Sneakers, but who can risk wearing all white shoes anyway?

4. What to go better with my nerdy new shoes, then my nerdy new T from Snorgtees?

It was pretty much impossible to choose my favorite one, but in keeping with the galactic precedent, The “It’s Okay Pluto, I’m not a planet either” T seemed like a pertinent choice.

5. Now, let us all pause for a moment to take in the genius. For this item I will bestow upon only the still image, but there is an entire video paid in homage to the Soy Popping Edemame Keychain:

No. You do not have to be disappeared into another dimension in order to make these magical beans appear. You just squeeze ever so softly on your handy dandy key chain and the lovely little middle bean (which makes one of a whopping 12 random faces!) comes out to bring a smile on even the most stubbornly unhappy faces. Pure delight, my friends.

6. The following product was brought to my attention under the caption “Forensics: Girlie Boner” (by @queendeb). And for good reason, my friends.

In all honesty I cannot say why we pursue what we pursue. Why we think what we think, and then change our minds again. And again. Why we shake our heads ‘no’, as our lips motion ‘yes,’ as the remainder of our body seems to fade into an intellectual vacuum, and our self fades into the community. Am I only myself, or only myself within the game of society? Am I shaped by the minds of my ancestors and predecessors to the point of no return; from the point in which every action I take is merely a reaction, and over which I inevitably have no control, but am always doomed to be controlled? If I am only guided by who I am not, what I will not do, and what I cannot abide by, according to the rules already laid out for me, than how can I, can one, hope for any genuinely unique genius?

In all honesty? One cannot. But my guess is, one can only do the best one can.
